A stay at a Swiss partner university involves significantly less effort compared to other universities due to the shared educational and legal framework. The EPFL and ETH curricula are particularly easy to coordinate.
All partners except EPFL
If you cross a language border, you will receive a scholarship of CHF 1,000 per semester. No additional application is required for this scholarship. You will receive the scholarship contract by email in due course.
EPFL
You receive a scholarship of CHF 1,500 per semester (independent of the effective number of months). This special funding highlights the importance and encouragement of exchanges between the two ETHs.
No additional application is required for this scholarship. You will receive the scholarship contract by email in due course.
No language test is required, but you must be able to follow the courses in the respective lecture language.
The Student Exchange Office does not issue a language certificate, as the training or learning agreement signed by the ETH and the partner university is sufficient. Should you nevertheless require a letter, contact your departmental exchange coordinator.
1 or 2 semesters (minimum 90 days, maximum 365 days)
Application deadline
Two months before the start of your stay (regardless of the deadline for exchanges for courses)
Application process
You have to apply through through Mobility Online
A project through Swiss mobility is subject to simplified conditions compared to exchanges for courses:
- You must organise the project yourself.
- You need supervisors at both the partner university and ETH.
- You must meet the minimum grade average set by the Student Exchange Office.
- You need approval from your departmental exchange coordinator.
- Includes research projects, Bachelor's and Master's theses
You can apply for accommodation from the foundation for student housing (FMEL). To do so, you need a confirmation from EPFL that mentions the exchange dates.
