Topic 2026: How we create knowledge

While researchers are completely free in how they explore complex issues and develop new ideas, there are clear rules and principles governing how findings are turned into new knowledge. The results must be comprehensible and verifiable.

By educating students, scientists pass on new knowledge and train the next generation of researchers and specialists. They contribute current knowledge to business, politics and society.

In this way, science makes an essential contribution not only to technical and social progress, but also forms the basis on which political and social discourse becomes possible.

In collaboration with the City of Zurich, we show how science and scientists also shape life in the city and its administration.
