Coaching

Coaching plays a vital role in project-based education by bridging the gap between traditional instruction and autonomous team collaboration. At ETH Zurich, coaches support students as they navigate complex, often open-ended challenges, guiding learning processes rather than delivering content.

Through active listening, open-ended questions, and reflective dialogue, coaches help learners take ownership of their goals, clarify obstacles, and grow as individuals and teams.

This page introduces the coaching role within project-based teaching formats, outlines how it differs from and complements tutoring, and provides resources and training opportunities for those interested in developing their coaching practice.
