Open Science
Open Science represents a cultural shift in how the scientific community works. Researchers are consciously and responsibly moving towards curating, storing and sharing publications, research data and, increasingly, educational resources so that they are accessible to all, unless legal, ethical, intellectual property or other clauses prevent it. This transparency increases the quality and efficiency of the research process by making research results verifiable and thus more reliable and is essential in driving knowledge forward and promoting innovation. The benefits of researchers opening up their work are also welcomed by decision- and policy-makers, funding bodies and society at large.
ETH researchers have various options for opening up and sharing their data and publications. This webpage is designed to navigate the services and infrastructures available at ETH Zurich. It also provides links to specific funding programmes in relation to open science.
News and Events
The external page ORD Portal is where you can find all 107 ETH Domain-funded ORD projects.
Two new ORD documents:
- Tracking user identity information is crucial in ORD for data ownership, data providence, and authorisation purposes. The document external page Identity and Access Management for ETH ORD Projects provides recommendations for ETH services and infrastructure regarding authentication technologies. It was developed as part of the ORD Programme of the ETH Domain.
- ETH Domain institutions hold rights to data generated by their employees, except for literary and artistic works. They can decide how to make data accessible as ORD, but must follow legal, third-party, and contractual restrictions. A report prepared by Prof. Thouvenin and his team, and commissioned by the ORD Programme of the ETH Domain explains the applicable legal restrictions and the options available to researchers for opening up and sharing research data (available in external page English, external page German, external page French)
