Intellectual Property & Licensing
ETH aims to maximize the impact of research with commercial potential by supporting its researchers in properly protecting their inventions, software, data, tangible research property (e.g., materials, prototypes), and know-how and by licensing these intellectual property rights.
ETH transfer has the mandate to:
- educate and collaborate with the ETH community to think and act strategically with regard to protecting know-how and technology generated at ETH.
- evaluate research results of ETH with respect to IP protection and licensing potential.
- professionally protect of IP and maintain a strategically relevant IP portfolio for subsequent licensing.
- ensure and expedite consistent IP licensing negotiations with all external partners (established companies, spin-offs, other organizations).
- control and distribute proceeds to ETH inventions out of IP licensing
